About

What tile installation includes for your remodel

Tile installation starts with the room and the surface beneath it. We review the substrate, the tile type, the planned pattern, and the edges that meet cabinets, walls, flooring, or fixtures. The work can include surface preparation, tile cutting, setting, grout, sealant where appropriate, and finish checks. We coordinate tile work with kitchen remodeling, bathroom renovations, basement finishing, additions, and interior updates. The base matters as much as the tile. A flexible, dirty, damp, or uneven surface can lead to cracked grout, hollow spots, loose pieces, or uneven edges. Our team checks the condition before setting tile and explains any added preparation the room needs. We take a firm view on one point: attractive tile cannot make a weak substrate reliable. The layout, bond, joints, and transitions deserve attention before the final grout is applied.

What Tile Installation Covers

Tile Installation is a remodeling service that bonds ceramic, porcelain, stone, or other tile to a prepared surface.

  • Tile installation differs from painting because it requires substrate preparation, layout control, adhesive or mortar, grout, and movement planning.
  • Tile installation requires a surface that is clean, sound, and suited to the selected tile and room.
Process

How we install tile from base to finish

1

Review the room and tile plan

We discuss the room's purpose, selected materials, pattern, edges, grout, and nearby finishes before work begins.

2

Check and prepare the substrate

We examine the base for movement, moisture, debris, and uneven areas, then plan the preparation needed for a sound bond.

3

Set the layout before cutting

We establish the tile lines, cuts, openings, transitions, and visible edges so the pattern fits the room.

4

Install tile and grout

We place the tile on the prepared surface, manage joints, complete edge details, and apply grout suited to the installation.

5

Check the finished surface

We review alignment, bond, grout lines, edges, transitions, and the visible finish before the tile work is complete.

What to prepare before tile work

A few decisions before the consultation help us plan the tile work around your room and remodeling goals.

  • Choose the room and surface that need tile.
  • Gather tile samples, photos, or design ideas you like.
  • Note loose tiles, cracked grout, stains, or uneven areas.
  • Move personal items away from the planned work area.
  • List nearby cabinets, fixtures, plumbing, or flooring that must meet the new tile.

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

After experiencing water damage in our home, we needed to replace all our flooring, some kitchen cabinets, and redo our primary bath. Linda and her team truly saved the day after a disappointing experience with another contractor. She worked closely with us to choose the perfect tiles for our bathroom and find flooring that suited our home. Her contractors did exceptional work, from leveling the floors to installation and cabinet remaking, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Linda answered all our questions along the way, and we cannot speak highly enough of the work she and her team performed!

Leaving a long overdue review. Linda helped us remodel our bathroom and kitchen last year. We also did some flooring improvements, and some electrical and plumbing work along the way. The pricing was very reasonable, and we appreciated that Linda was always conscious of our budget, when we made adjustments to our plan. The work was delivered very quickly on promised timelines. She had some really good suggestions around the choice of flooring, which we are thankful for (especially looking back after a year). Also appreciate her sense of style.. it helped us make the right choices for countertops, tiles and fixtures. It all looks great, our guests often comment on how beautiful our kitchen looks. Thank you!

Questions homeowners ask about tile work

Who installs tile for remodeling projects in North Bend?

HomeRemodelNorthbend.com installs tile for kitchens, bathrooms, floors, wet areas, and broader home renovations. We review the substrate, layout, tile material, grout, edges, and transitions before work begins. Our team can coordinate the tile scope with related remodeling work, including interior updates, plumbing, electrical, cabinets, and flooring.

What changes the quote for a bathroom tile project?

Bathroom size, substrate condition, tile material, layout, edge details, and nearby plumbing change the quote. Demolition and repair needs also affect the work because tile cannot be set reliably over a weak or damp base. We review the room and discuss the selected materials before preparing a quote for your project.

Can tile go over my existing floor or wall tile?

Existing tile can receive new tile only when the old surface is sound, stable, clean, and suited to the planned installation. Loose pieces, moisture, uneven areas, and weak bonds need attention first. We inspect the current surface and explain whether preparation, removal, or another approach best supports the finished tile.

Why do some tiles sound hollow after installation?

Hollow sounds can indicate gaps beneath the tile, weak contact, or movement in the base. We check the affected area, nearby grout, tile edges, and substrate before deciding what needs removal. A limited repair may fit some conditions, while broader movement or moisture can call for more preparation.

How do I choose floor tile for a kitchen or entry?

Floor tile should match the room's traffic, cleaning needs, moisture exposure, and desired appearance. We discuss tile material, surface texture, size, pattern, grout, and transitions with your remodeling plan. A floor choice should also fit nearby cabinets, doors, trim, and flooring so the finished room reads as one design.

What should I ask before approving a tile layout?

Ask where the main reference lines, narrow cuts, grout joints, transitions, and visible edges will fall. These choices affect the finished look more than tile color alone. We review the proposed layout with you before cutting, especially around cabinets, fixtures, door openings, niches, and other fixed parts of the room.

What happens if moisture is found below bathroom tile?

Moisture below bathroom tile requires source checks before the surface is rebuilt. We look at the tile, grout, substrate, and nearby plumbing to understand the affected area. The repair plan may include removing damaged material, correcting the source, preparing the base, and then rebuilding the tile surface.

Key Points About Tile Installation

  • A sound substrate supports the tile and grout above it.
  • Tile layout controls cuts, patterns, edges, and transitions.
  • Cracked grout can signal movement or moisture below the surface.
  • Bathrooms need careful review of tile, grout, substrate, and nearby plumbing.
  • We coordinate tile choices with the room's wider remodeling plan.

When Customers Call Us About Tile Installation

1

Cracked Grout Around A Bath

Cracked grout around a bathroom floor or wall can point to movement, moisture, or a weak base. The visible joint may not show the full problem, so we inspect nearby tile and the substrate before planning replacement. Homeowners in North Bend can bring photos and note when the cracking began, then we can discuss the right repair or installation path.

2

New Kitchen Surface Plan

A kitchen update may need tile to meet cabinets, counters, appliances, and existing flooring. The pattern and edge cuts matter because small layout errors become easy to see around fixed features. We review the room plan, tile choice, grout, and transition points with you before setting material.

3

Uneven Floor Before Remodeling

An uneven floor can affect tile alignment, grout joints, and how the finished surface feels underfoot. Covering the area without checking the base can leave hollow spots or raised edges. We assess the floor first and explain the preparation needed before you choose the final tile layout.
